Is It Possible To Have Nerves In Your Face Severed During A Root Canal?!

Question: Is It Possible To Have Nerves In Your Face Severed During A Root Canal.?
Yes, I am probably overacting, but I honestly honestly dislike the dentist and I am freaking out. I had a root canal this morning and i am STILL numb about 8 hours after the Root Canal.

If I am still like this Monday of course I will go back in.

She did use the strongest level of numbing agent, but I am freaked out.

Please only serious answers.

I just need my mind eased a little.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
It is impossible to sever the nerves during an RCT. In the past, there were some root canal fillers that caused damage to nerves (e.g. Sargenti technique, endomethasone) but no-one would use them nowadays.
More likely, I am guessing that you had a lower molar worked on. The anaesthesia for this always lasts a long time, and 8 hours is not unexpected. If she used something like bupivicaine ("Marcain"), then this can go for up to 12 hours.
It should be noted that the anaesthetic effect for your tooth lasts much shorter than that for your face. Your tooth would normally start waking up after 50-90 mins maximum. It is only an annoying side-effect that your face is numb for such a long time.
Everything will be OK in a bit of time. Perhaps next time you might ask for something that doesn't last as long.Health Question & Answer
