As long as you use the whitening gel in moderation (that means small amounts in your tray in each tooth slot) then you should be fine. I have known patients that use the gel for years. You will know if your teeth start to get sensitive if you are using the gel too frequently. The best place to get whitening gel is through your dentist so that he/she can make specialized trays for you. Crest Whitestrips are good...but you will see better results from a professional product through your dentist. also the Whitestrips are sometimes troublesome in keeping them in place. Remember if you use a gel a small amount in each tooth space of the tray is all you need. also you do not need to go past your pre-molars as no one can see your back teeth anyway. It will save you money on your gel. Just be sure that you only whiten your teeth to look natural white and not too white. You do not want to look fake. Best wishes.Health Question & Answer

You didn't mention what kind of whitening gel you're using, but most whitening agents won't wear the enamel off, even after fairly long term use (some whitening agents are used for months without any ill effects).

As for whitestrips, whatever is working for you should be ok. If the gel isn't working, you can try the whitestrips.

You can basically whiten as much as you want, but there is a limit to how white your teeth will get. Most people stop when they stop noticing any difference or if they start to get sensitivity.

Normally your teeth will start to darken slightly over time, but whitening toothpastes and good home care, along w/ avoiding coffee, red wine, etc, will definitely delay the process. Keep in mind that you may need to whiten every so often if you want to maintain their peak "whiteness".

Hope that helps.Health Question & Answer
