Question: Stronger wire on braces.?
I've had my braces for 2 months now & my ortho said that i'll be getting a stronger wire sometime in the future. What does this mean & what does a stronger wire do.?Health Question & Answer

Well braces serve 2 purposes sometimes. To straighten and to retain tooth position. Stronger wire is put in because your teeth are as straight as they're gonna get with the current wire. Now, nothing new is going to happen until a tighter wire is put in. My braces are only on to keep my teeth in position for the time being. You'll be sensitive, in the front of your mouth particularly, for maybe 2 days. It won't be as bad as getting them on; don't worry. Stronger wire is put to make teeth move if they are not moving with the existing ones or sometimes the existing wires are tightened to make the teeth move at a speed required by the dentist. When they will put stronger wire or tightens the wire then for few days you will feel pain in the teeth and for that you can take pain killer tablet. After few days it becomes normal. I have braces and recently got changed to stronger wire, you have nothing to worry about, it won't hurt any more than the one you have now its just so that the teeth continue to move in the right direction. I think they are made out of stainless steel. I had to have surgery on my teeth and the eavier wire was just so that everything would be held in place during and after surgery.

it just means that you are getting a stronger wire to help your braces process move along. Its nothing actually noticeably different as far as pain, just helps your teeth move.
