Question: Tooth hurt when tapping.?
A few days ago, after a cup of coffee, my left front tooth started to ache, but nothing I didn't think was odd. The following day, whenever I tapped the tooth, there was a dull pain in it, but nothing I think I couldn't stand. The following day again, I couldn't drink water that was too cold without the tooth being too sensitive and sending a sharp pain. The third day now, it's extremely sensitive to the touch, and even touching it with my tongue can hurt. I have a dental check-up planned for next week already, but I'd like to know what to expect before I head in.

I had something similar a while ago and it turned out there was an abscess. I was prescribed antibiotics to get rid of the infection, then I had root-canal work done on the tooth. None of it was pleasant of course, but the anaesthetics they use nowadays reduce any pain to the minimum, so try not to worry about that. Usually the worst thing about having local anaesthetic in the mouth is the actual injection itself, and even then a numbing gel is usually applied to the site so that the injection is only mildly uncomfortable.
If, as you say, the pain is now unbearable I would strongly advise you to get an emergency appointment with your dentist now, don't wait until next week. Whatever is causing this pain will clearly not go away without treatment, and if you try to wait till your check-up date who knows how you will be coping by then.. Severe toothache is seriously debilitating. Do get seen today if at all possible, and good luck to you.Health Question & Answer

Call the dentist right away. Could be an abscess (infection). Which is very serious. You may need antibiotics.Health Question & Answer
