No, if a General Dentist is going to perform the extraction.
Oral Surgeons are specially trained and licensed for administering the IV sedation.
The General Dentist are usually not licensed for that unless they have undergone such training.

Usually if you have them removed by your dentist, they will just numb the area, maybe give you a little laughing gas, then get to work.
However if you are completely queasy about teeth pulling like I am, you would have to go to an oral surgeon to be knocked out.
Check with your dental insurance to see what the plan covers. Some plans will not cover the knock out drugs and sometimes you will have to pay out of pocket for the surgeon then submit the claim after wards.

It depends.
I was knocked out completely for the removal of my two wisdom teeth but fully awake with just a local anesthetic for the removal of another tooth. That was for braces and it didn't hurt at all afterward.
