Question: Do I really have to wear braces for two years.?
I've been wearing braces for 10 months and I used to have HORRIBLE teeth but now I swear they are perfectly straight and even my orthodontist is impressed with the progress, but I was wondering If I could get them off in less than two years. I'm most thankful that I could afford them but now there getting really annoying and unattractive. I'd honestly wear a retainer for a longer time if I get my braces off sooner. Well they make LOOK straight but beauty is in the eye of the orthodontist. 10 months.? Your tired of your braces.? Well, try oh.. 38 months with them. Trust me; it could be worse than it is. Now most people think: YES! straight teeth the braces come off right.? right.?! Well my teeth have been straight for nearly a year and my braces are still on. Besides the fact that though they look straight there may still be problems you may need rubber bands to adjust your bite. Other factors may come into play that you don't know about. Trust me I've had lots of surprises pop up. If he said 2 years it'll be at least 18 months. Don't worry you'll survive. Hope you have a prefect smile soon.Health Question & Answer

Sometimes you think your teeth are perfectly straight but there are some other things you have to consider:
Will I have enough room when more teeth come in.?
Will they turn back crooked when they are taken off.?
Can my teeth be straighter.?

I wouldn't count on them taking them off early. I've had my braces on for 3 years now and they've looked perfectly straight for 2 years. It's not all about the teeth, they have to make sure your bite is correct and many other things. Luckily, after three years I'm getting mine off in 19 days :)Health Question & Answer
Possibly, but they might be working on your bite and some details later on. Trust me, I feel the same way, but I just have to hang in there. Hang in there, they will come off when they are ready! I agree with you that they make one look worse, but you'll look better. The ortho might take them off early, just ask! That 2 years is only an estimate! :) Health Question & Answer

It is possible to get your braces off earlier. When they said 2 years it was just a estimate. However, I don't think that you can wear a retainer longer just to get you braces off faster.Health Question & Answer
