My mouth is so sore after fillings. Is this normal?!

Question: My mouth is so sore after fillings. Is this normal.?
I had five fillings done about 7 hours ago on all my molars. However, the left side of my mouth took much longer and they had to give me multiple numbing shots. The dentist also commented that I might need a root canal on the upper left tooth in the near future. Now the numbing solution has worn off and the left side of my mouth is painfully sore. The specific teeth and my entire gum line & jaw are throbbing. I've taken 800mg of ibuprofen, swished with salt water & used ice and the pain has not minimized. Is this normal.? How long should I expect to be in pain.?Health Question & Answer

I've had many fillings done, and quite a few of those continued to hurt for quite some time. One of my molars took longer than normal (count them, five shots just to numb it), and it hurt for a few days... and for about 1 year afterward, I had an extreme sensitivity to heat and cold.
It still hurts on occasion and it's been 7 years.Health Question & Answer
