How long do I have to wait after tooth extraction to smoke?!

Question: How long do I have to wait after tooth extraction to smoke.?
Hi, guys. Yeah, I know it's bad for me anyway-I don't need a lecture. But yesterday I had an impacted wisdom tooth and 4 molars extracted in lieu of dental implants I'm getting done in a couple months, and I want to know when I can safely smoke again. Man, do I want one. :(
My print out sheet the office gave me says 6-7 days. SERIOUSLY!.?! WTF! That would mean everyone who has ever had an extraction done there must no longer smoke, because what's the point after a week of having not.?.?
Most of the websites I visit says 24-48hrs, but it also seems to vary depending on the location of the extraction. Since I have 5, what do you guys think.? :SHealth Question & Answer

Answers:
I had wisdom teeth cut out a month or two ago,and I waited until 3 days.

On top of that, people told me "why don't you just quit.?"

It's VERY frustrating and annoying, especially when you can't smoke and need one.

Try 3 days,if not then 2 at the most. This way it will give it time to heal up.

Good luck.

As for people saying just quit, not that easy..... and it's really annoying too. Health Question & Answer

Listen to Ashley. She knows what she talking about.
I am a Dental Assistant & you need to follow the instructions yuor Dentist gave you. You can;t drink through a straw or have carbonated drinks, spit or smoke. You will get dry socket & it will be soooo very painful & then you will have to go back to the dentsit & they will put this nasty tasting & stinky medicine in the socket where your tooth was. Just hang in ther, I know it's tough but it will be worth it.Health Question & Answer

yes, wait a week because if you do it right after, the suction from smoking it will cause a very high risk of removing the clot from the extractions and you will get dry socket, which would be so painful and you would have to wait much longer then to smoke.

I think you better heed the instructions given to you by your doctor....he didn't have that printed up for nothing. While you're waiting for the six to seven days to pass, why don't you just quit altogether.? This is the time.Health Question & Answer

when i had my wisdom teeth out (they were under the gums and I had stitches, all 4) I was smoking that night... I think I was lucky though, you should be careful. I was young and foolish to do that! Health Question & Answer

i think you should just quit :]Health Question & Answer

Ahh...that's so frustrating. Like everyone else has said, I would follow your dentist's instructions. I know that usually they say at least 24 hours, but if yours told you 6-7 days he probably had a reason for that. As someone else mentioned, if you lose your clots, you can get dry socket, and I've been told by some people that alone is worse than child birth.

I know it's hard hun, but try to hold out as long as you can. It's too bad you didn't know before hand, at least then you could have anticipated it more (heck, I didn't even know about the 24 hour bit with my first one). Best of luck to you hun, try to not go too crazy, lol...I know it's not easy.Health Question & Answer
