Dentist question.. Crown verses Bridge? pulling last tooth as well!?!

Question: Dentist question.. Crown verses Bridge.? pulling last tooth as well!.?
Hi, I'm living in a new area which means a new dentist. I'm having a problem with my lower tooth. It has a huge filling in it. (Sensitive to cold.) And my new dentist is suggesting that I put a crow on it.Or a bridge cause the tooth in front of it is not there. (genetically missing teeth)so he wants to make a bridge for it. Plus he wants to make a bridge for the other side as well. I don't have dental insurance this is going to cost me 4K + Or he suggests that I just put a crow on that tooth. He also want to pull my last tooth on that same side. It is sensitive to hot and cold along with brushing. He claims that the roots are exposed. I have a gut feeling that I just don't completely trust this guy. I don't know why this is but I feel this way. I'm not sure i feel about him pulling teeth. I'm in my late 20's so i will be needing these teeth. Any idea's.? Suggestions.? Thanks so much for the answersHealth Question & Answer

If you think he is trying to sell you on a $4K dental job, then you might want to find another dentist and get another opinion. You might need a root canal and a crown or another dentist might suggest that the bridge is the only option. Don't let someone you don't trust or feel comfortable make those decisions for you.

I once had an endodontist suggest that I have all my teeth pulled and go for implants. I was not even 50 at the time and I did not want to lose my teeth. I found another dentist whom I working with on saving my teeth and a lot of money in the process. I am going to have a bridge replaced (it is almost 25 years old) and I have been quoted a price of $4K, so that is probably the going rate.

Again, if you are not comfortable and since you don't have insurance, find someone else and hopefully he/she will also help you with a payment plan.Health Question & Answer

Sometimes a dentist will suggest extracting a tooth especially if it's in the back of your mouth and not noticeable (think wisdom teeth).
It's usually the least expensive way to go. You really don't need the wisdom teeth or the teeth that are right next to the wisdom teeth.
That's the hardest part of the mouth to keep clean and most problems begin there and then spread so removing them sometimes is the best solution.
As far as a crown goes. If the tooth is sensitive and the dentist evaluates that it's still in good condition a crown might be the best solution for now. You could get 10-20 years (or more) out of it.
That would buy you time until you get dental insurance or have the money.
The best thing is to get another opinion (but that will cost money).
Good Luck.Health Question & Answer
