What can be used for bad breath besides chewing gum and mints?!

Question: What can be used for bad breath besides chewing gum and mints.?
Answers:
Hi,

Poor oral hygiene due to poor home care and long-time negligence can result in gum disease.

Once the hard tartar forms, that in turn harbors more bad germs and initiates local destruction of the bone. That gradually creates more gap between the gums and the teeth, resulting in more food and germ impaction.

The retained food particles then get fermented by the germs and result in bad breath (HALITOSIS).

Getting serious about brushing, flossing and rinsing without the cleaning (deep cleaning in the case of gum disease) and followup cleanings WILL NOT make any difference.

If untreated, the vicious cycle continues. Gradually, the teeth become very loose. If treatment is sought at this point, the dentist recommends a 'deep cleaning' (which is called Scaling and Root Planing). Usually the periodontists and the hygienists evaluate you on a case basis and make that call.

You can try couple of other things :

1. On top of brushing your teeth use a "tongue scraper" to clean the tongue surface.

These days they say that food particles stay stuck in the crevices of the tongue and cause bad breath. Therefore, you need to clean your tongue on a daily basis as well.

2. Instead of using Listerine only (which you should not use more than 2 to 3 times a day and have to use in a diluted form), also rinse with luke warm salt water. One glass of water and a pinch of salt.

Listerine just masks the bad breath, but salt will kill the germs. Things will imporve once you have eliminated the germs that putrefy the food particles to cause bad breath.

After dinner, brush and floss. Then rinse with the salt water and go to bed like that. DO NOT rinse that out with plain water.

3. Watch what you eat and how you take care of yourself afterwards. Don't let any food / juice / drink sit in your mouth for long.

a) Garlic will cause stinky breath

b) Milk causes the formation of lactic acid, which in turn increases the number of bad germs.

c) Same with Orange Juice (citric acid), Vinegar (acetic acid), etc.

d) Whenever you eat something brush and floss your teeth.

e) Whenever you drink something chase it with water.

f) In general, drink plenty of water throughout the day.

Try these. I hope you will see much better result.
