I only drink a cup of coffee each day, but I hate how it turns my teeth a yellowish tint.. what can I do?!

Question: I only drink a cup of coffee each day, but I hate how it turns my teeth a yellowish tint.. what can I do.?
Tea and hot chocolate are nowhere near as satisfying as a nice warm cup of coffee. I only drink one per day, and it wakes me up and tastes sooooo good. I just don't like the fact that it turns my teeth yellow -- and yes, I drink out of a straw.. but there is still a film that it creates on the teeth. Anyway, every time I try to give it up, I have terrible withdrawal symptoms -- ie. terrible headaches and just overall feeling crappy. The symptoms last for a day or so, and then I feel okay, but within a week or so, I go back to drinking it because I miss it. What should I do.? Health Question & Answer

I know what you mean--I drink gallons of the stuff-- try brushing with baking soda--it will be awful at first because its so bitter, but it will help neutralize the acid in your mouth from the coffee, it will help clean your teeth better because it is a mild abrasive [dont worry, it will dissolve before it can do any damage to enamel or anything] and will help with coffee breath too. I've been using it for a couple years, it does help, and I can't STAND 'real' toothpaste any more, it seems like syrup!

also, do see the dentist for cleaning more than twice a year, if your insurance will pay or if you can afford an extra one or two polishings.Health Question & Answer

Coffee won't tint your teeth yellow. Teeth are naturally yellow.
But if you want to give it up anyway, then a slow transition to decaf is the way to go. Mix some real coffee with decaf and slowly increase the amount of decaf over a month. also watch out for other caffeine sources such as cola drinks or energy drinks.Health Question & Answer
