Question: Why would my 5 1/2 year old son have a new molar come up now.?
My son has been complaining of his back took hurting so I finally told him to open his mouth real wide and move his tongue. When he did I noticed this extra molar on the bottom right side. It is now almost completely cut through, but one corner is still under the gum. I did not think you got any more molars until you ere ten or eleven.Health Question & Answer

Yes that's his 6 year molar coming in. They come in around this age. He should be getting a total of 4. They can be painful (he's teething) Make sure to bring him to the dentist once they are fully in so that they can put sealants on them. Sealants help protect the biting surface of the tooth from getting future cavities. These teeth are one of the most important teeth in one's mouth. make sure to be religious with the brushing with him now that he's getting his permanent teeth in.
