They ache a bit, when you have had a visit to get them tightened. They can give you ulcers, have a stock of bonjela and brace wax in. They are very worth it, straight teeth now, as when you are older it takes much longer, with a not very good result.
Boys now do not matter what will matter is later on, when you have attractive straight teeth.
18 or so months flies by, even 2 years, you remember christmas 2006 .?
A lot of kids will make nasty comments about braces, the plain truth is they are simply jealous of the end result. That is that your teeth will look better than theirs.Health Question & Answer

1) There is an adjustment period for your mouth with braces as you now have extra material on the front of your teeth that your gums have to get used to so there may be some initial irritation. When you get your braces "adjusted" your teeth will hurt for the first couple of days, but this can be mitigated by Tylenol or Advil etc....this can be mild to medium as far as discomfort but manageable. You have to remember that you are trying to move your teeth (bone) into a different place than they have been for some time.

2) Absolutely worth it! It's been a while since I've had mine and nothing compares to having perfect teeth. I don't know what your situation is, but I had an over bite and the change was remarkable. Contrary to what everyone says these days, appearance has everything to do with how people treat you and perceive you as a person. So definitely worth any pain or discomfort.

3) As a boy I would say no. I might be ageing myself here but when I met my fiancee she had braces and it wasn't even a consideration. By the way we are getting married next week! Any person worth your time will see past the braces to the girl underneath. On the other hand if you have to wear any head gear......just kidding. Braces are generally more accepted as more and more adults are getting their teeth done as well. I would hope in the world we live in now, you would not be subject to any sort of ridcule. I personally don't remember being made fun of in any way.

4) 18 months is not a long time to have braces, if I recall I had mine for nearly 3 years! It wasn't that there was a lot of work to be done, but I lived in small town and the trips to the city to the orthodontist weren't scheduled as often as I would have liked.

I hope this advice helped. I think you will be fine and after all is said and done you will have a perfect smile, and believe me I run into people all the time that wished they had their's done too.

Cheers!Health Question & Answer

1) It all depends on your pain tolerance. I just got mine put on yesterday, and before them I got told by friends that it will be painful, that it will cut the inside of my mouth, and my jaw will feel as if it has it's own headache. Well don't listen to what people say - mine aren't cutting my mouth, nor do I feel alot of pain at all.

2) Yes, they are! Just think, after the treatment you can be flautin them pearly whites! and you'll have those beautiful straight teeth for the rest of your life.

3) Not at all, guys don't really pay attention to the smile, they pay more attention to your personality and eyes.

4) 18 months is nothing, I have to have mine on for 36 months, so I'd say you're lucky!

My advice, don't pick a really light colour for your elastics, for they do tend to stain/fade easier.
And also, don't get all worked up about getting them, you'll be fine and they'll totally be worth it!

I wish you the best of luck!! :)Health Question & Answer

in the beginning the braces do hurt for about a week but after that one becomes used to them. yes, they are really worth it and that you will realize when you will be complicated for the beautiful smile after the braces are removed. it depends how you present yourself in front of the boys. if you are confident and donot think that the braces are something to be ashamed off then even boys donot find the braces a turn off. and no 18 months is not a long time . it flies and be prepared sometimes the braces are there for more than 18 months. for more information on braces you can visit the following link

Health Question & Answer

1) They don't hurt when you get them put on, however they do ache a lot for a few days at first.

2) Definitely worth it. It will improve your teeth and you'll be able to smile with gorgeous straight teeth.

3) No not really. Some guys love kissing girls with braces.

4) 18 months is not long at all. You'll miss them in a funny way when you have them taken off.

Have cold smoothies and ice cream to "numb" the pain you feel for the first few days. Health Question & Answer

Hi Emmie,
they hurt but are worth it. Some boys do but most don't, especially if they have them too. 18 months isn't long considering how nice your teeth will be. You just have to practise extra oral hygiene because with braces there is more places for food and stuff to get trapped to cause cavities.Health Question & Answer
