First take a deep breath and calm down. The whole idea of "putting you to sleep" is to make the whole thing as easy and painless as possible for you. You probably won't be totally out for this. Typically the method used is called "conscious sedation" this means that you will be able to respond to questions and help by turning your head etc. There are two main ways this is done. One is with an I.V. that the medicine is given through so you can be given more as needed for your comfort. The other way is with oral medication given about one hour before they start. You will also be very numb in the area after the sedation is started. The best part is that the medicines used usually make you forget most of what happened after it wears off and you don't really care what happens while the medicine is working. Be sure to ask any questions you have before they start they should be happy to answer them.

What they do when you are sedated is all the stuff that might hurt or feel weird if you weren't out of it. I've done this same procedure many times with only numbing the area and no sedation. It's a very common procedure and as long as you ask your questions and stay calm you should be fine. Usually patients are given a prescription for pain for after the procedure and an ice pack can really help. Hope this helps. Stay calm and get a snack before midnight if you're allowed.Health Question & Answer

don't worry, tinkerbelle. Removing a baby tooth shouldn't be serious, because baby teeth don't have roots. Maybe you and your parents can talk to the dentist before he begins the procedure. You can ask him exactly what to expect, and let him know you are nervous. He'll help you understand the procedure better, and you will be just fine. I hope everything goes really well tormorrow! Good luck. There are different kinds of anesthesia. Some don't really put you to sleep. Some are gels, there are injections, there's gas. Ask your dentist about that, too.Health Question & Answer

well, i dont know about the actual surgical part, but when they put my friend to sleep during her surgery, they put the mask on and told her it was going to smell sweet and then smell like skunk but she might be out by the time it smelt like skunk. she was out before the skunk smell (luckily) and when she was coming to, she got her hearing first and could hear her parents and then after a few moments she opened her eyes. she said it was just like being asleep except for the 'waking up' part.Health Question & Answer

Allen C answered the question well-but about how they pull your tooth down, it could happen one of two ways.
Either it will be able to grow down into the space that's left when the baby tooth is gone, or they will put a little bracket (same as braces) on it to pull it down into place. Neither will hurt :)Health Question & Answer

Baby teeth DO have roots but they are very small. First they will sedate you( make you fall asleep) you wont feel that at all. Then they will numb your gum with a topical gel then give you an injection, then they will take the tooth out and that is it. They may put a stitch in there as well. It is not major. You will wake up and not feel a thing!!Health Question & Answer

It's totally minor. You will probably have an IV which will just pinch for a second. Just look in the other direction and think about anything else.

After that, you wont feel a thing. You'll wake up, all finished, tahdah!

Best dentist experience you'll ever have, the IV is the worst part, and that hurts no more than a simple shot.

Less, if the tech is skilled.Health Question & Answer
