Is there a such thing as brushing too much?!

Question: Is there a such thing as brushing too much.?
Ok, well. I have never really thought anything of it so I havent asked my dentist, but all my friends and even my husband mention that maybe I brush my teeth too much. I usually brush 3 times a day and I floss everyday. I use 3 different tooth brushes and 3 different pastes ( 1 kind for each time I brush) Sometime I brush 4-6 times a day depending on if I have a snack or a nasty taste in my mouth. Is brushing your teeth too much a bad thing.? Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Yeah, you CAN brush to much, what will eventually happen is your gums recede and it can expose the roots of your teeth underneath.

Brush twice a day for 2 minutes, and if you really feel inclined then just give a quick brush after you eat something (I mean just a grazing to get any food out of your teeth and get any aftertaste out of your mouth)Health Question & Answer

If you brush too vigorously with a hard toothbrush you can damage the enamel on your teeth. This happened to my daughter. She had gum line cavities that the dentist said were a result of the enamel being damaged by brushing too much with a hard bristled tooth brush.Health Question & Answer

hello, sounds like you suffer from obsessive compulsory disorder by overdoing things. there is no need to do what you do, just brush your teeth after breakfast in morning, and before going to bed, use your energy on other stuff instead of continually brushing n flossing! good luck!! Health Question & Answer

Yeah. You can damage your gums if you are not careful and your gum line will recede. In a more extreme case I'm guessing you can wear the enamle down on your teeth over time as well.Health Question & Answer

Wow....sounds like too much.....2-3 times a day is enough, unless your'e snacking constantly....then you should stop the snacking (unless due to some condition it is needed) Health Question & Answer

If you brush too much or too hard, your gums will recede. Thats what happened to me when I was about 10 or 11. So yes--I'd ask your dentist what he/she thinks about it!

Good luck =)Health Question & Answer
