Will trismus post wisdom teeth removal resolve itself?!

Question: Will trismus post wisdom teeth removal resolve itself.?
Had all four wisdom teeth out under a local anaesthetic about 10 days ago. Still in quite a lot of pain and can only open my mouth a very small amount (if I open as much as I can the gap between my front top and bottom teeth is only about 2 cm).

The dentist has prescribed antibiotics and pain killers. He says I have an infection. I should have asked him when I was there but I was a little freaked out!...Can trismus be permanent.? Or will the antibiotics definitely clear it up.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
99% sure it will clear up, but nothing is definite.
It is normal to have trismus after wisdom teeth extractions. When I had mine out, I don't think I felt normal and couldn't open fully for over a month. I couldn't eat anything without cutting it into small pieces for 2 weeks!
If it's not normal in a month, I would go back to see him.Health Question & Answer

Limited jaw mobility can result from trauma, surgery, radiation treatment, or even TMJ problems. The limitation in opening may be a result of muscle damage, joint damage, rapid growth of connective tissue (i.e. scarring) or a combination of these factors.(http://www.oralcancerfoundation.org/dent... Anti-inflammatories, soft diet, moist-heat/cold applications usually help with the muscle pain.

If on top of that you have an infected surgery site, the antibiotics will help clear that up.Health Question & Answer
