Well, as for speech impediments, they last like a week if that. That's due to swelling, sounds like you have something in your mouth. If the piercer hits a nerve, I'm pretty sure all that happens is bleeding, may be heavy bleeding due to the size of the vein/artery. But this is unlikely because any good piercer checks the bottom of your tongue before piercing. And also there are two big veins under your tongue, there is very little chance of them being punctured.

Basically there's a lot of crap on the net that says bad stuff about this piercing. Its not as bad as they say it is, and you'd have to be a moron to write about these kind of problems, the piercer will use clamps which there is no way of hitting them veins.

As for a piercer, chose a place that has a good reputation, clean appearance, the piercer should be open about any questions you may ask them, if they ask why you need to know this, just walk out, as to me, that's dodgy. also don't go to a salon to get this done, go to a proper piercer, as it is something that shouldn't be taken lightly such as a lobe piercing.

Aftercare, basically have good dental hygiene, you won't be able to eat tough foods for a week, so stick to ice cream, jelly, soups, custard, soft foods, like you'd give a young child. Because you won't be able to manage to eat solid foods, you will be a bit uncoordinated with it, and will need to re learn these basics, don't worry you will get the hang of it all pretty quickly, its just learning how to tilt your tongue so you don't crunch the barbell. Oh and rinse with diluted mouthwash (I used blue listerine) after I ate or drank anything other than water. You can wash your mouth out with sea salt water mixed to the taste of your tears, that promotes healing, and it gives your mouth a break from chemicals in the mouthwash.

jewelery should be a long barbell at first because you'll swell. After about 3 weeks you can return to your piercer to get it downsized, or if your experienced, you could downsize on your own with a clean barbell. I found that acrylic barbells irritate my piercing even now 2 years later. But you may be different, it all depends really on your body's tolerance.

The procedure itself, well, they usually get you to rinse with mouthwash first, then they dry your tongue with paper towel, they then draw a dot, or mark a cross on your tongue and use the cross meeting point as the piercing guide, they then ask you if your happy, then they clamp it, they look at the bottom of your tongue, then the top and figure it out, they then tell you to close your eyes and take a deep breath/or they count to 3, then they put the needle through, some go from bottom to top (how mine was done) or top to bottom. Then they thread the plastic part through, cut off the sharp bit off thread jewelery through, pull the plastic part out, screw the ball on then they tell you to sip on ice water, crushed ice, they may have this on site, or they may tell you to go buy an ice drink before the procedure so its there when its all done.Health Question & Answer

you will lisp a lot after you do it, for about two weeks, and yes, it will hurt. a lot. but if you've done the research and thought so much about it, then i say go for it. the lisp will go away and if your artist is careful and experienced, he or she will put it in a place that is sexy and won't impare you foreverHealth Question & Answer
