the first 24 hours after the extraction are the key healing time. it allows you to get a good blood clot built up so try extra hard not to smoke then..
after that try to keep it to the minimum, and rinse you mouth out with salt water afterwards.

Hi! I had a back molar removed last week and they all tell you "Don't smoke". In an ideal world, that would be lovely. But if you're a smoker, you know it's impossible. I waited about four hours, and when i did finally break down, I inhaled VERY LIGHTLY and slow so I didn't disturb the blood clot.
Just be REALLY CAREFUL, and you'll be fine.
Remember, lightly and slowly.
