Is the dentist trying to jack me?!

Question: Is the dentist trying to jack me.?
I had a 4 quadrant cleaning a week ago & the dentist is telling me i have to go in for a fluoride treatment for my gums..I already brush with a fluoride toothpaste, is she just trying to get me to go in to charge me & my insurance more money.?
BTW it cost $95 for this so called periodontal maintenance fluoride treatment she wants to give to me. Health Question & Answer

Yes, You already went in for your clean up so why did she not do it while you were there, cos she wanted you to come another time to charge you. If you have good dental Hygiene then you don't need the fluoride treatment for your gums, to be honest I've never heard of a dentist doing that and I go to the dentist a lot cos I'm obsessed with my teeth and I'm aware of all he procedures.

My dentist said that some dentists do things that aren't even necessary so they can over charge. Like a a motor mechanic who tells you you needs this and that done but then you find out that you really didn't need it cos they just wanted to charge you.

Find yourself (may be recommend by a friend) a new dentists that is trust worthy. Health Question & Answer

What kind of cleaning was it.? Was it a routine cleaning or a deep scaling.? It really doesn't make sense for her to have you come in a week later but if you are prone to decay it may help. also, if you have a lot of sensitivity in your teeth. :)

One thing though, a lot of insurance companies do not pay for fluoride treatments on adults. You didn't mention your age so I thought I would mention this. Make sure your insurance company will pay for it before you do it or else you will have to pay out of pocket for it!

Did she give you a reason as to why she wants you to do it.? Are your gums in bad shape.? That's why I asked what kind of cleaning it was. Your gums are just as important as your teeth! They need to be taken care of as well! If you had a deep cleaning then she may want this to help tighten your gums up around the teeth and also fluoride helps whip your gums into shape after an invasive treatment! There could be lots of reasons as to why but use your better judgment in whatever you decide! Good Luck!Health Question & Answer

when you have your teeth cleaned, the upper layer of enamel initially becomes more prone to decay. So dentists usually apply fluoride (immediately after the cleaning procedure) to strengthen the enamel structure.

I doubt that it has the same effect now, I mean after a week or so.Health Question & Answer

unless she gave you a good reason to do it, she's probably just trying to get you to come in again. anything with 'maintenance' in it probably isn't needed. especially after you just got your teeth cleaned.Health Question & Answer

FYI,
$95 USD IS A VERY FAIR PRICE FOR A PERIODONTAL TREATMENT.Health Question & Answer

Try switching dentists. If the other dentist says the same thing, then you should probably get it done.Health Question & Answer
