After you brush your teeth at night -while your toothbrush is still wet- dip the head of it in baking soda. Evenly coat all the fronts of your teeth. Let set for about a minute. Then brush like you would with toothpaste. Rinse mouth.
Do this every night if you want. Its not harsh on your teeth. :) also a stronger version is to add 1/8 teaspoon of salt on top of the soda, and just do the same. The results are quicker.
Whitening toothpaste is a good idea...any kind. It doesn't have to be expensive. And you can use a mouthwash if you want, but the baking soda trick will do it. :)
I've asked dentists and they agree. Baking soda is the way to go. It doesn't damage your teeth or make them sensitive. also a lot of the toothpastes have the soda in it. So its double duty. :)
I have tried the dentists whitening kits; they made my teeth ache and become very very sensitive, especially to hot and cold. They were annoying (trays) took forever, and didn't work as well.
I now use Arm and Hammer whitening toothpaste. Plus Arm and Hammer baking soda. My teeth are WHITE. I get complements all the time!
Good Luck!
Trust me, you'll be smiling those pearly whites in no time!

NOTES*At first the soda takes weird. Don't swallow it.*Health Question & Answer

I would be careful with the baking soda thing. I know a dentist with 33 years of clinical experience.

She said that anytime she has encountered a patient who has had rapid, unexplained gum recession - that patient has been using either baking soda or hydrogen peroxide. This is what she told me.

There are not studies to back this up - but since she has over 30 years of clinical experience, I believe her.

The baking soda is very abrasive, it is easy to see how it could harm your gum tissue if you are not very careful.

In general, I try to stay away from teeth whiteners. I'm always a bit worried about how they will affect gum tissue.

Health Question & Answer

Try brushing your teeth with a little baking soda (removes plaque and buildup) then buy some crest white strip premiums, and follow the directions. Don't keep them on for longer than it specifies, cuz then your teeth might get senestive.

White strips work, but mke sure it's the premium (non disolving type). If your teeth do get senestive just start brushing with sensodyne.Health Question & Answer

Lemon juice, baking soda or baking powder can also be used for teeth whitening. Rubbing the bark of walnut tree brightens the teeth. Strawberries are natural teeth whiteners, simply rub them directly on your teeth or mash into a paste and apply. Apple cider vinegar can also be used for teeth whitening.More remedies and information regarding your teeth at http://useinfo-dentalcare.blogspot.com/
Health Question & Answer

Commercial tooth whiteners use hydrogen peroxide and are expensive and inconvenient. A cheap and natural tooth whitening home remedy uses few strawberries but certain precautions have to be taken. I found the information at http://www.aches.in/toothwhitening.html
