Answers:
I think you are referring to a partial bony and full bony impaction. That just indicates how far the teeth are buried in the bone.
Yeah, there's no way around it, you will definitely be in pain afterwards. The worst pain should last for 2-3 days, but you will almost certainly be prescribed some strong pain meds, and possibly antibiotics to prevent infection. Returning to work depends on your comfort level. You will certainly want to take the rest of that day to rest, and probably at least one or two days after. The more active you are, the more post-op bleeding you will have. You want to stick to soft foods for at least a couple of days until the blood clot/scab stabilizes. The oral surgeon may give you a plastic syringe to rinse out the sockets after eating.
Oral surgeons are very good at extracting teeth, and there is a low probability of complications. The main complication that can arise is damage to one of the nerves in the vicinity of the lower wisdom teeth. There is a nerve that runs thru the jaw that supplies feeling to the lower lip and chin, and a nerve on the tongue side of the jaw that supplies feeling, and taste sensation to the tongue. It is possible to damage one or both of these nerves, and have prolonged numbness (paresthesia). This numbness almost always goes away over time, but can rarely be permanent.
You will want to call the oral surgeon if you have swelling that increases after the 2nd or 3rd day, or spreads to other areas of the face. If you start having increased pain after the first few days, the blood clot/scab may have been lost; this is very painful, and will take longer to heal (so be careful for the first day or two). also call the oral surgeon if you have excessive bleeding that won't stop.
I hope this didn't scare you too much!Health Question & Answer
