Root canal (endodoncia or tratamento de canal). The truth. Does it have to hurt?!

Question: Root canal (endodoncia or tratamento de canal). The truth. Does it have to hurt.?
I was surprised when I found out that I had to do a root canal. Some people told me it hurts but most said it doesn't. The thing is that when I went to do it, after the anesthesia IT STILL HURT!! (I could feel my mouth numb)
The doctor didn't want to put me thru pain anymore so it interrupted treatment, she put a cotton with a liquid into my tooth and closed it up temporarily saying the chemical was going to help take the tooth's sensitivity away (I believe it will completely kill the nerve). But I am returning to the dr. tomorrow. I am still feel some pain in my tooth. I am not very confident it will take away the pain. What should I do.? Should I ask her to try the chemicals a few more days.? Does it actually work.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Root Canal Treatment usually hurts when there is an area in your pulp or nerve of the tooth that is still vital or alive. Ask your dentist if she can do intrapulpal injection instead of local infiltration on buccal/labial and palatal/lingual surfaces.

The chemical on the cotton that your dentist used is actually some medications or dressing. It will kill the pulp, thus stopping the pain.

I usually let the dressing stay inside the tooth for two to three days before continuing the treatment.

BTW, after the dressing was placed did u feel any relief.? It's okay to ask your dentist to re schedule you for another day if you cant take the pain. DOnt forget to take your pain relievers.Health Question & Answer

They say I need a root canal. I went to a dentist in CA. I am from mississippi. The reason I went to CA I was their for 6 months. The tooth has never given me any trouble. It never has hurt me so I just wanted them to cap it. The dentist said I need a Root Canal. I went and they tried to numb it and it did not take very well. I have always had a trouble with that. They have had to put me to sleep to just pull a tooth that was infected. Maybe being sedated might work better for you to. Good Luck to you and wish me luck to I was allergic to the anesthesia.Health Question & Answer

Root Canals are dental treatment all dentist avoid.. why.?.?.? Its all depends on whats going on,If there been trauma the root canal might be easy n be sore in the area.If there deep decay n the tooth been throbbing n keeping u up then it a more painful experience because the tooth already infected. if the tooth is abcess dentist need to remove infection n bring any swelling down so the tooth can be numb n you should be sore for a week is normal.I believe the dentist put a medicate temporary filling to see how the tooth going to react... it might calm down a not need a root canal or your case since its still hurting you..YOur dentist need to reopen the tooth n start to remove the nerve.. once the nerve are removed the tooth is dead n has no more feeling. So dont wait until your teeth start hurting go before for all yearly check up to avoid major dental root canals n extrations Health Question & Answer
