Please some one!!! I have severe dental pain!!?!

Question: Please some one!!! I have severe dental pain!!.?
Since Saturday at around 7pm I have been in excruciating pain. My upper left teeth are very sensitive to touch, and cold. The front of a couple of my teeth are numb, I can't fully close my mouth and I've been to the ER twice because I can't see the dentist till at least Tuesday. (Stupid holiday)

The doctor first told me to take amoxicillan for the infection and Advil. I ended up going back again with unbearable pain with which I was prescribed T3. Since 11:30 last night I have taken 6 T3's with absolutely no pain relief. I've taken 2 every three hours even though your suppose to take 1- 2 every 4 and the pain is increasingly painful.

I can't eat or sleep, I've woken up almost every 2-3 hours yesterday and today with the pain including a nasty headache that radiates from my ears to the back of my head and neck. I don't know what to do. It's 6:30 am on Monday and I can't stand the pain!!! Can someone tell me whats going on and what I should do. The ER treats me like I am making this up, It really F#%$# hurts dammit!

Any comments would be highly appreciated! (I have no more T3's till I can buy some from the pharmacy, the 6 were given to me at the hospital last night when the pharmacy was closed so I could sleep, too bad it didn't help much) P.S I've tried salt and Orijel it makes it worse.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Are you taking the Amoxicillin.? That should start relieving the infection soon (if you have an abcess). I would take 800mg of Advil, which is 4 tablets of the 200mg over-the-counter ibuprofen pills. That is a typical prescription-strength dose. Did they give you a prescription for more T3's.? If so, go get them filled and take the Advil with those. It won't interfere and may help boost each other. It doesn't sound like the T3's are strong enough for your pain, but please don't take more than 2 at a time because of the Tylenol (acetamenophen) in it. Too much can be very toxic on the liver. It wouldn't hurt to call the ER back and ask if they can call you in something other than Tylenol 3's, like perhaps Vicodin. It's doubtful that they will do this, but on the off-chance that the same ER doctor is there, he might be willing to do that to save you another ER trip. Another option is to call your primary care physician if it hasn't been to long since you've seen him/her. Since it's a holiday and they may be closed, you should still get the on-call dr. Maybe they can call you in something. You also might want to try placing an ice pack on your face. I wouldn't use heat as that might worsen an infection.

The main thing, though, is I think you should go ahead and take 800mg of ibuprofen. That is a good anti-inflammatory and should help the pain and swelling. But only take that dosage twice a day.

I hope you feel better soon. I know how dental pain can hurt.Health Question & Answer

Ohhh, I know that kind of pain, it's like even a pillow will feel like concrete. Try to keep a hot pad on that side of your mouth, as hot as you can stand it... I know this will sound gross, but if it's infected, after a while, the heat will pull the infection out to like a 'boil type' thing and it'll pop. The relief of pressure will help make it feel so much better. Rinse often with warm salt water.

If the heat makes the pain worse, try ice packs, they have a numbing affect.

Good luck, hope you get to the dentist soon! Health Question & Answer

You should have asked for the injectable pain reliever from the hospital.
Try putting cold compress on the area. Take two Midol and two tylenol. Reflexology or massage may relieve the pain.

Do you have tooth decays.? If your teeth are cavity-free, then it's not the teeth that are causing the problem. There is what we call "referred pain", you sometimes feel pain in other areas which are not actually the source of pain.

Yes, you can get cavities and infections in your teeth even if you brush daily and floss every after. That's why you have to visit your dentist every six months. Microorganisms causing tooth decays are naturally present in our mouth. It is when there is increase in sugar-intake, decrease in salivary flow and decrease defense mechanism, these microorganisms will increase in numbers and become virulent.

I really hope I live near your area cos we are open on holidays and weekends until 10pm.Health Question & Answer

We need more information abt ur dental history. Did u ever have an accident with a blow to ur teeth.?. Did u have a big retoration to any one.? Looks like the nerves have been affected. Now u need to find out which one(s). Antibiotics and analgesics are necessary but also the dentist has to work on the responsible for the pain. Maybe a root canal. also meds need 48 to 72 hours to make effect. U didn't specify if it is a front or back tooth. Is it a wisdom.? When was the last time u had a good check up.? U can brush and floss 3/4/5 times a day and it doesn't mean u'll be carious free. See if u can get a stronger analgesic and wait till u see ur dentist. Good luckHealth Question & Answer
