Question: How long do braces hurt for when they're put on.?
On monday i had braces put on and they are so painful and I cant eat so I have to swallow. How long do you think it will be for my braces to stop aching and for me to be able to eat properly. Health Question & Answer

It depends on what kind of braces you are going to be getting, top or bottom, or both. The bottom ones usually hurt more. When they put your braces on then about 2-3 hours later, your teeth start to wiggle a little (don't worry they wont fall out) and they hurt. The pain could last from 3 days to a week and a half. Avoid eating hard food e.g. carrots, apples, try cutting it up before you eat it. Eat cold food, like yoghurt, cold soup or icecream, it reduces pain. (at least that's what it did to me). Usually, just for the night, but sometimes 2 or 3 days if yours hurt, use some oral-jell, it makes your teeth numb, put it wherever it hurts and it will numb your teeth completely, or maybe you can get some medicine for the pain.? they don't hurt when they put them on. it hurts like 3-4 hours after they put them on becus your teeth are beginning to move around & what not. the pain goes away after 2-3 days.
then, they hurt every time the orthodontist tightens them.
then, if you get rubberbands, that hurts for 2-3 days.

I'd say that they'll probably be pretty painful for 2 or 3 days, and then maybe 3 or 4 more days after you'll still have to be a little bit careful with what you eat. After that you'll hardly notice them, except when you get them tightened.Health Question & Answer
they will hurt for about a week or so don't eat stuff like steak, hamburgers, or anything solid until they quit hurting you should eat jello, pudding, and other soft foods.Health Question & Answer
Mine hurt for about a week.
If all you can do is swallow then soup would be really good to eat. And try taking some tylenol if you havent done that yet.
