What are the risks of localized dental anesthesia?!
Question: What are the risks of localized dental anesthesia.?
I had an awful experience last time where the the novocaine made my heart race and I think they may have accidently gotten a vein (what I've discerned the more I've researched this).
I am now terrified of getting anesthesia at the dentist and am putting off getting a cavity filled. Can this local anesthesia be harmful or am I just worried for nothing.?

Its very rare, but novocaine can increase heartbeat I have had it on a couple of occasions, its not a lot of difference from a long run and increased heartbeat from that. if you are fit and healthy there is nothing to worry about. In all the years I was a Dental Nurse, we never had any bad reactions to it, and I have never come across a dentist hitting a vein.

It is not harmful. One bad experience shouldn't make you afraid. Just explain your fear to your dentist and I'm certain that he or she will be very sensitive to that fear and put your mind, and teeth, at ease. Good Luck. Happy Halloween.Health Question & Answer
