I got all 4 wisdom teeth out 5 days ago and now there is a nasty smell and taste in my mouth?!

Question: I got all 4 wisdom teeth out 5 days ago and now there is a nasty smell and taste in my mouth.?
There's not much pain, only what's left over from getting off the pain killers, so I don't think it's dry socket. most of the taste seems to come from my saliva and the sockets and it won't go away with brushing or mints. any ideas for getting rid of it/ what it is.?Health Question & Answer

it's from that place where the wisdom teeth were taken out. Don't worry it will go away in about a week or so. It's usually it comes from the "wound" that you now have until it heals. Yes, the smell is very nasty, but it's only temporary. Same thing happened to me and it felt like it was never going to go away, but eventually it did. Just keep following instructions that your dentist gave us. Wash out your mouth with salty water several times a day. :)Health Question & Answer

Just don't dislodge the blood clots by trying to eat or brush too vigorously, or sucking through straws.

Hope and pray you don't have dry socket. If you do, prepare for some of THE WORST taste and smells you have ever smelled in your life. The doctor packed my dry socket with a special gauze strip soaked in medication, and when they removed it and flushed out the hole to put a new strip in it tasted so bad I almost cried.

My dry socket didn't really hurt all that much, it just stank and oozed. Have the dentist check it out. Otherwise, there's not much you can do.Health Question & Answer

It may just be due to not being able to brush in the back and having such a limited amount of space and food you can eat.

If the smell and taste does not go away soon, call your oral surgeon back.

I do know that I had the most awful taste in my mouth for a week or so after due to eating ice cream, soup and drinking kool aid and not being able to brush good.

Well, first and foremost you need to see a dentist. Second, you could be experiencing a tonsil stone, which is a yucky smelling ball of old food and dry mucus, (yeah, I promise I'm not making this up). These tonsil stones la in the back of your throat and come out periodically. Now when you mentioned that you GOT all of your wisdom teeth out, Did you get them pulled professionally.? If your teeth were pulled professionally I'd go back to the dentist and talk ASAP.

Working with the functional mouth can be a difficult task, being asthough teeth are very close to the brain.

Thats how mine was, and I'm pretty sure it's normal. (at least my doctor and sister said it was.) It will go away eventually I promise! My doctor said its just dried up blood, dead tissue. I figured it was too just because my spit had a brown tinge.

Mine went away, but it took a while!

(if they gave you a syringe to rinse with, do it as often as possible. It helped me.)

Oh, and don't rise with Listerine what ever you do! That **** hurts like hell! If you absolutely have to, make a mix of water and Listerine (mostly water). It's way better and doesn't hurt but still tastes minty!Health Question & Answer

I got my wisdoms out recently and ive had lots of dental surgery. That smell is mainly the fact you have four open/healing wounds with blood and saliva drying mixing (and sometimes decomposing). as it heals and the stitches come out the smell will go away with eating solid foods and regular dental hygiene.Health Question & Answer

yeah... its gonna take awhile for that to go away.. and even your pain killers can cause that.. I took vicodian i barely remember a thing..

dont eat rice or ground beef or chips, it will get stuff in the holes from where your teeth use to be...Health Question & Answer

Swish salt water solution in your mouth. It heals the gums and helps moisten your mouth, which in turn helps your mouth not smell. Mix up a teaspoon of regular salt with 8 ounces of water. Health Question & Answer

It actually may be dry socket, probably a minor infection too. gargle with some warm salt water and give the dentist a call. It wont last long IF you take care of it now.Health Question & Answer

Try gargling with Listerine. It should kill any germs left over.Health Question & Answer

An infection, call the dentistHealth Question & Answer

It'll go away when they're full healed. It's just the wound healing.Health Question & Answer

I wouldn't know what to do.
But I think you should go see your dentist they'll know what to do.Health Question & Answer
