Why does the left side of my mouth have more room than the right side?!

Question: Why does the left side of my mouth have more room than the right side.?
For the past few months, the braces on my teeth have been brushing against the cheek inside of my mouth.

also, when I move my bottom jaw forward and bite down the right side of my mouth. Nothing unusual happens on the left side when I do this.

Is this a major problem.? How can I fix it.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Not a major problem, no. It sounds as though it may have to do with your TMJ (temporomandibular joint)- the joint where your skull meets your lower jaw. TMJ disorders are more common in females. If there's no pain, I wouldn't worry about it.
Try this: place your hands on your face, in front of your ears, so that your finger tips are pointed towards your ear lobes. Leave them there and open wide, then close. Do you feel a clicking or popping.? If so, it is definitely TMJ. Again, if there's no pain, you're fine. There's really not much they can do.
In some cases, when the lower jaw is moved forward, it can move slightly to the side one way or another. also part of TMJ.
When you get the braces off, perhaps you won't even notice it. The braces take up all that room in your mouth.
However, it doesn't hurt to talk to the orthodontist. It could have nothing at all to do with your TMJ, it's hard to say without seeing it.
Good luck!Health Question & Answer

No it's not. I have braces too and when I first got them on, my tounge would ALWAYS scatch on the metal brackets and it cut my tounge whenever I talked, ate, or drank. Eventually it will get better. As for the space issue in your mouth, it doesn't matter. Everyone is shaped in many different ways. If it keeps scrating, try putting some wax on your braces, but if it continuously happens, even with the wax, call your ortho. I hope your mouth feels better soon.Health Question & Answer
