I just got braces, I have some questions...?!

Question: I just got braces, I have some questions....?
What should I do to clean them after meals if I don't have floss or a toothbrush at hand (i.e. At school).?
What can reduce the pain for the first few days.?
How long until I can thoroughly play my instrument.?
Any other strategies that I should use to keep my braces and teeth in good condition.?

Thanks in advance.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
I have braces too.
1. They sell these little things at a supermarket/store(whatever you want to call it} that are like a little stick with bristles. It's hard to explain, but if you go into the dental section, you will recognize them. They can get under and through your braces.
2. Take a pain reliever medication, nothing else will work.
3. That's just a trial and error, every day try to play your instrument because the pain and dental condition is different for everyone.
4. Try to brush after every meal (if you are at school, rinse), floss, and double check to get all pieces of food out of your teeth before bed. If you don't do this, calcium deposits will get ob your teeth, and can only be removed with time. Good luck.

For the cleaning, just swish some water around in your mouth and spit it out.

For the pain, you can either take some tylenol or stick it out since braces pain will always be at it's worse after you get them tightened. (it get's better over time)

What kind of instrument do you play.? I would just say after you get more used to your braces since I haven't heard of braces interfering with how well you play your instrument.

When I had braces, I just made sure to brush my teeth really good. I usually didn't floss but I do recommend it.

Have a bottle of water with you and some toothpicks maybe. After lunch, clean up in private. There isn't really a way to reduce pain, well, not that I know of, and I don't play an instrument that requires blowing (I play the piano). Brush afterschool if you need to. Don't chew gum, eat hard, crunchy things, stuff like that (I do that and nothing happens to me, but you should listen to your orthodontist =)).

And best of luck! Braces really are annoying. =(Health Question & Answer

For the first couple of days braces are a pain in the butt! You will get used to them though. When it comes to playing your instrument, you should be able to play a least 2 days after getting them on. Make sure you brush your teeth a Least 3 times a day if you don't it will make "train tracks" across your teeth! don't eat hard candy, trust me i have experience. When you want to clean in between the you should consider getting a mechanical tooth pick, that vibrates. hope my advice helps!Health Question & Answer

Hey! I've had braces for two years now. They're not too bad.

~ You don't have to brush your teeth at school. If you really want to just keep a toothbrush in your locker and leave lunch early to brush your teeth.

~ Take tylenol! It will really help. Trust me!

~ It'll probably be about 4 days before you can play without your mouth being sore. ( I played the clarinet when I got mine on.)

~ Despite what your ortho may say you really can have (sugarless) gum and popcorn. I would avoid hard candies and fruits that aren't cut up like apples.

Good luck I'm sure your teeth will look beautiful!! :DHealth Question & Answer

buy a travel sized toothbrush and mini floss to clean them at school and eat things like yogurt the first few days. Once the pain and discomfort stops, you should be able to play you instrument. Brush after every meal to keep your teeth and braces looking and smelling good.Health Question & Answer

to clean them you can go to a water fountain and swish the water around in your mouth really fast.
To reduce the pain you can eat a lot of soft food and try not to hit your teeth together
don't know about the instrument
use a water pick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
