Question: My retainer really hurts.?
My retainer really hurts me especially at night, I have to wear it at all times except when I am eating, cleaning my teeth or drinking a hot drink, I have only had it for 3 nights but as I am pregnant I can't take too many painkillers and was just wondering how long this aching pain lasts.? Does it ever go away or am I going to have this pain all through the 6 months that I have to wear it.?

Hi, Pain during orthodontic treatment and retainer usage should only last for 24-72 hours only, then it should be diminishing at that point. If the pain is unbearable and increases in intensity, then there is something wrong with the treatment, it could be a force too great or something that impinges the teeth and gums and bones. I have a retainer too. I got it a few months ago...first of all what kind is it.? it is the clear kind or the acrylic kind.? second, it shouldn't hurt..it will be uncomfortable howelever for about a month..then u'll get used to itHealth Question & Answer
