Inflamed gums ?!

Question: Inflamed gums .?
I have braces, and I'll admit with some embarassment, that I have been pretty lazy and not flossing my teeth like my orthodontist has been telling me. Now my gums, I've noticed are a little inflamed.

My question is, if I start flossing now, will the inflammation go down.?

How long will it take for it to go down.?

How often do I have to floss.?

Thanks a bunches.

Answers:
If the cause of your inflamed gum is loose dental plaque only, flossing should help. But if the plaque is hardened, flossing cannot relieve the swollen gums, You have to go see your dentist and have them cleaned.

The healing process usually takes 5-7 days depending on the severity of the inflammation.

Normally, you can floss at least once a day. In your case, since you're wearing braces, you have to floss every after meal.

For the person who answered first, the reason why his gums didn't get inflammed while wearing braces even without flossing, is that there are people who are prone to plaque formation and calcular deposits faster than other people. There are factors to be considered in the formation of plaque and calculus, such as the consistency of the saliva, the amount of salivary flow, the general health of the patient, the habits, etc.

Health Question & Answer

Yes. Floss daily it should clear up in a week or so, however ask your hygienist to help you. Show you how to brush and floss better. Its different with braces. Your orthodontist should provide someone to assist you too. Ask for help and if no one provides it change your health care providers. Don't be scared. It is difficult to clean braces. I have seen adults who are challenged by this. You don't want a bad out come. Its very important to have your teeth cleaned while in braces and if the problem still exists try a more frequent cleaning until you learn how to brush better. It will be beautiful and worth the effort. bbrockHealth Question & Answer

You HAVE to floss at least once a day. And make sure you do it the right way. It will take about a week for your gums to start to tighten up and turn pink again and yes it will definatly work.
Dont stop doing it either cause when it comes time to get the braces off the dentist will sometimes wait till the gums are healed to do so. God Bless Health Question & Answer

I honestly did not floss at all when I had braces. What my orthodontist suggested to me was: get a soft bristle toothbrush and rub it along your gums massaging them. Do this everyday for about 45 seconds. It really helped my swollen gums a lot.Health Question & Answer
