Is the salary of a dental hygienist enough to survive on your own?!

Question: Is the salary of a dental hygienist enough to survive on your own.?
I'm a male in junior year of high school and wanting to
become a dental hygienist. My dad says he wants me to go
in medicine or doctor or at least a dentist. But I'm not really into
the whole blood scene and things with being a dentist. But I don't
mind being a dental hygienist but my dad says it's not enough
to make a living off of.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
You should know that hygienists deal with a LOT of blood on a daily basis. In fact, probably more than the average dentist. Periodontal problems (which is what you deal with all day) are the bloodiest in the mouth since inflamed gums and bone produce a lot of blood, especially when you get down in there and do some deep scaling under the gum.

Just so you're aware! And there are TONS of careers that are fascinating, earn good money, and allow you to feel fulfilled without HAVING to go into medicine. Ignore the status thing!

But yes, hygienists make quite a bit: usually $30-60/hr. Plenty to live on.Health Question & Answer

I am a dental hygienist in Ohio. I make around 50K a year and benefits. It's a very rewarding career. You might want to look into what a dental hygienist does, because you definitely have to have a strong stomach. You see very gross things sometimes and you will be working with blood. In some states you give injections for the anesthetic too. Health Question & Answer

Dental Hygienist make a very good income, but whether or not you can live on it depends on your lifestyle. I hate to burst your bubble, but hygienist probably deal with more blood than dentist. You may want to reconsider. Good LuckHealth Question & Answer
