Swelling caused from wisdom teeth... hot vs. cold?!

Question: Swelling caused from wisdom teeth... hot vs. cold.?
Ok, so Thursday I had all four wisdom teeth extracted and today my cheeks are about 3 times their normal size. I didn't mind so much the first two days because I didn't have to go anywhere, but tonight I have to work concessions and ticket sales at a local concert which means being seen by 100's of people.

So my question is, should I use heat or cold packs on my face.? The brochure from the doctor said "cold the first day, hot after that", but every time I leave leave the heat on my face for a while my cheeks get bigger.

Any other tips to relieve swelling would be much appreciated! Thanks!!

Its ok, your doctor really meant WARM compress, warm compress not hot compress makes the fluids that are localized in the area of healing disperse rapidly. Try Soaking a towel in warm water then damp it on the area for 20 mins then off for 20mins, do this until it goes off. but in most cases the swelling is up to more than 7days depending on your immunes system especially longer in women for unexplained reasons.

Continue with your antiboitics and have soft, cold and warm diet to lessen the trauma to the surgical site.

Hope I helped you, any questions, just add a comment or detail in your question. Good day!Health Question & Answer

RED,
YOUR DENTIST WAS 100% RIGHT.
Cold is only effective the first 24 hours. Afterward, warm moist heat, like a microwaved washcloth, and Advil every 4-6 hours will help to decrease this swelling.
The lymphatic fluid causing this swelling takes a few days to heal and get back to normalHealth Question & Answer

to reduce the sweling yu do warm saline rinses and from outside you can use cold compresses.if you do hot fermentation from outside the swelling will increase. for more information on dental topics you can visit the following link

I had my 4 wisdom pulled plus 2 more teeth all at the same time.
I only used ice. The heat made the swelling go up way more. also I know it sounds odd... but wash your face alot!!! The pain killers and everything starts seeping through your skin. YOu will not regret itHealth Question & Answer

Continue hot compress or warm compress (not too hot or too warm please), on the affected areas which cause blood vessels to dilate, more blood flow to your vessels, thus aids in the healing process.Stop the cold compress on day two it would only cause vasoconstriction, or vessels to constrict, less blood flow to your vessels and delays the healing. Don't worry swelling is a minor and expected complication post surgical removal of wisdom teeth. If it gets bigger just continue since healing will eventually follow.Maybe it's too warm please adjust the temperature warm enough for you to withstand, not too much......Swelling depends on how much trauma your muscles and bone endure during the surgical procedure. You can also asks additional prescription for Anti- inflammatory, ex. Diclofenac K (Potassium) to be taken 3X a day for 5-7days depending on how your system would respond to the treatment. Drink plenty of fruit juices rich in Vitamin C, it also aids/helps in the healing process. Continue Antibiotics10-14days or longer or as prescribed by your surgeon. Take plenty of rests too...Hope this would enlighten you.... God Bless!!!Health Question & Answer
