Question: Swallowing gauze.? Wisdom teeth out....?
I had my wisdom teeth out yesterday and last night I went to sleep with two rolled up gauze pieces in my mouth to stop the bleeding. At about 6:00 am this morning, I woke up choking on one of the gauze pieces. It was halfway down my throat and I couldn't get it to come out. I ended up swallowing it after about 5 minutes of struggling to breathe. It was about a 4 in by 4 in sheet of gauze. Will this pass through my system.? Or do I need to go to the hospital.? I don't think it is anything to worry about, it will simply just pass through your digestion system :)
I wouldn't bother going to hospital unless you feel unwell and you think that this is the cause.

I agree with Narrelle. There shouldn't be anything harmful about swallowing gauze; it should pass uneventfully through your digestive tract.Health Question & Answer
