Is this a good sign?! Please read (sorry its long)?!

Question: Is this a good sign.?! Please read (sorry its long).?
Hi,
4 days ago I had a root canal done on my front tooth because I had an abscess. She said it all went fine and sent me home until a weeks time when she would replace the temporary filling.

Well the next day I was in a lot of pain so I went back and she banged on the tooth and when I hit the ceiling with the pain she said its probably got infected further up.

She gave me 5 days of 250mg strength Amoxyllin and said if they dont work she may have to take it out.

Well I have 1 day left to take and until today they made no difference to the pain. I have been nearly in tears for the 3 days since - convinced that because they werent working I would have to have it out and I am terrified (and hormonal!)

But today it feels slightly better - I still cant bite on it as it kills me but before even if my lip pressed against it it would be agony but it feels a little better today.

I only have 1 days tablets left and do not think that after them it will be better completely but I think it would have definately improved.

My question is - if I go back will she think that the tablets having worked a little bit as a good sign and maybe give me another course of stronger ones or will she just say "it hasnt gone completely so lets pull out your tooth!".?.?

Does it mean that I may keep my tooth and just need stronger pills as these have worked a little.?

Sorry its so long but I am so scared of dentists due to a bad experience that took place as a child whilst having a tooth out and my hormones have made me even more panicky!

Any opinions would be appreciated.Health Question & Answer

Answers:

Antibiotics stay in your system for 10 days to 2 weeks, so I think the tooth might continue to improve even when you finish the tablets (but I'm def NOT a doctor).

Dentists never take out teeth that can be saved, cos you need them for life. Just be honest and tell the dentist that it has improved and take it from there.

also, the reason they put temporary filling in is so that if the root canal isn't good and there's still infection, they can go beck in and get rid of it. Hopefully she can just do that if the infection really won't go away.

I think there's still hope for your tooth. Good luck with it and your baby! :)

the dose may not have been enough, remembering a mouth is full of bacteria, maybe augmentin would have been a better choice as I would not think Amoxyllin would be strong enough whilst dealing with an absis... certainly when i had my absis removed I was given augmentin.but I amnot a dentist.....Health Question & Answer

the next time you go, tell her that pills helped a little the day before the last time to take the pills because you dont have anymore.

ask her if she can give you one more chance with the pills. and ask her if its okay to take stronger pills if she has any.

if your tooth still doesnt get better, then odds are, yes shes going to pull that tooth.

i think that the pills needed some time to kick in.Health Question & Answer

Well as long as you haven't been taking additional painkillers that could be responsible for the improvement, i'd say its a good sign. The original infection sounds like a bad one and hopefully this is why the antibiotics took so long to work. As long as it keeps on improving I can't see why she won't let nature take its course. Good luck and be truthful with the dentist on how you feel on the day or you will be back in even futher agony! Deep breaths you'll be fine!Health Question & Answer
