Ibuprofen is better for TMJ. also if you have medical insurance it may cover some of the expense but only if you go to a TMJ specialist (there are not many either). You may grind your teeth when you sleep during the night or when you get stressed out so try to relax your jaw during the day, maybe try to get a mouth sleep guard to wear in your mouth at night, also try to stay away from really really chewy and hard foods because this can bring on the pain. Get a very decent pillow to rest your head and neck on at night and when you wake up in the morning try to do a few head, neck, and shoulder exercises (side to side for example). Big tip: reduce stress and strain in your life. And when you get an opportunity get a specialists consult. Health Question & Answer

You can take a washcloth and put warm water on it or run it under water and then heat it up in the microwave for 5 seconds, and then put it on the area where it's causing the most pain. That'll ease some of the muscle tension.

You could also wear a mouth guard at night when you sleep, it will prevent you from clenching your teeth while you sleep, which will ease the strain your jaw is feeling. Sometimes I have to do this.Health Question & Answer
