ok well im going to have my wisdom teeth removed in about 10 hours and on my previous consultation (last thursday) they went ahead and gave me the prescription for my meds so i would have them ready right after the surgery was over. So i got them and i was reading what they gave me and they gave me three prescriptions, hydrocodone, amoxicillin, and ibprophen(800 mg). so thats all good but seeing how both of them are pretty strong drugs(ibprophen and hydrcodone) i was wondering if it was ok to take them at the same time, and i didnt know if one of them was for when i was in school(11th grade) or like i said before if i take them at the same time. Hydrocodone is for the pain, ibprophen is for the swelling. Yes you can take them all at the same time. Well, at least how it's put on the prescription. It's a pretty standard script you have for when your wisdom teeth get pulled. I wouldn't take the hydrocodone when your in school untill you know what they do to you. It will be just fine. You can ask your doctor if you are still worried, but I suspect that the hydrocodone is probably a smaller (in number) prescription that is used immediately after surgery and the ibprophen will last longer.
The doctor knows what he's doing. However, if you don't think you need the pain meds after you get your wisdom teeth out, and some people don't need as many, you don't have to take all of them. Just don't take more than what's written.Health Question & Answer

HYDROCODONE IS A NARCOTIC FOR PAIN CONTROL, SO IS IBUPROFEN (800mg) WHICH IS MORE EFFECTIVE THAN HYDROCODONE.
AMOXICILLIN IS AN ANTIBIOTIC TO TREAT/PREVENT INFECTIONS.
AS FAR AS THE HYROCODONE (VICODIN) IS CONCERNED. IT WILL GIVE YOU VERY DROWSY EFFECTS AND SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN WITH ALCOHOL OR DRIVING.

I would hope if the dentist or oral surgeon prescribed them, he or she knew about possible medication problems. That sounds pretty much the same as what I was given when mine were removed.Health Question & Answer
Consult your pharmacist as there is numerous things to take into consideration, including your age, weight, preexisting health conditions, and what your dentist intended in the first place. Hydrocodone though is definitely not for school since it is the generic of Vicodin or some similar drug. Amoxicillin is what will fight off any infections you get so you definitely want to keep on that one. I'm guessing that the Ibuprofen is for when you go to school and Hydrocodone is when you are at home and can sleep for 8 hours without worry. But like I said, I'm not totally sure because I'm not a licensed pharmacist. You should always consult your pharmacist that filled your prescription if you have any questions about the drugs that you are taking as what works and is acceptable for an adult wouldn't necessarily be healthy for you.
