Root canal vs Extraction? ?!

Question: Root canal vs Extraction.? .?
Right now on my top row of teeth (6th from the front); I have a cap. The tooth had problems in the past and they had to cap it which they said they could barely do because of the size they needed to make it. It broke twice and finally has a gold cap right now. It's been that way for about 10 years now. A few days ago it caused serious pain with heat and calms down with ice. I know it's a problem with the nerve and I need a root canal or extraction. I'm worried that if I get a root canal, it will give me problems in the future because the entire top of the tooth is already a cap and I think it will be more prone to breaking....? On the other hand, my teeth are tight in my mouth and maybe the other teeth will spread out afterwards and give me problems. The other situation is that I guess it's linked to my sinuses and can give me serious problems if I don't get it taken care of asap. What's worse.?. . I don't have insurance. I know it's a stupid question, but can I remove it myself.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
A with a root canal they basically kill the nerve, hollow out the tooth and refill it with some inert material, your dentist might even put some sort of metal post inside the tooth to reinforce it and replace the crown.

Done right and that tooth will cause you no more problems. Problem is root canals are very expensive you're looking at a procedure that's going to easily cost you over 1600 dollars.

A simple extraction is much cheaper and may be your only alternative if you don't have dental insurance. People have pulled their own teeth out in desperation but in most cases you'll end up causing more problems because you don't always get the whole thing out. You risk serious a infection and potentially life threatening complications here.

In your place I'd just get the tooth extracted by a regular dentist, shouldn't cost more than 200 dollars, including pain medication, antibiotics and follow up visits.Health Question & Answer

No insurance.? Pull it.

The tooth has already been a pain in the jaw, I'd just pull it. It should only be about $100 as opposed to several hundred to a thousand.

Your dentist will know the right thing to do regarding the space. Teeth drift, which is not necessarily what you want them to do. I would leave that to him to explain.Health Question & Answer

if you try to remove it yourself, it can lead to serious infections, like gums disease and other dental problems.

all though root canals kill (my mom had one) you should really get that tooth taken care of by a professional. Don't try to take it out yourself, it will just do more damage.Health Question & Answer

Have the root canal done.
The dentist will simply drill through the top of the gold crown and do a regular root canal.
Had one done about a year ago and all is fine.
Better than loosing a tooth and is the simplest way to address this issue.
It wasn't as bad as I had imagined at all....really.Health Question & Answer

Well, I still have tight straight teeth after having 6 extracted at once. Three impacted wisdoms, one straight wisdom and one on the bottom that the impact caused to break. same thing on the other side but it broke the last tooth. Its been almost 3 years and my teeth havent moved. Get it pulled if you want, you will feel better. Health Question & Answer

extraction root canal kills manHealth Question & Answer

Ok well first of all if they give a root canal and the tooth is already partly gone they will most likely put in a crown or replace the cap after the root canal anyway.. but the root canal just kills the root and they take out any infection in there... sorry but if you're in serious pain you're probably looking at am abcess which means you will be getting a root canal
and no you will probably do more damage if you remove it yourself... I had to pay out of pocket for ym root canal.. (it was not cheap)Health Question & Answer
