don't worry about it, its painless! but your teeth might be sore after a couple of weeks.

This is what they do:

1. They put these foam things underneath your bottom lip and upper lip to keep your lips away from your teeth. They take these plastic hook things and hook them to your cheeks lightly, which pulls your cheeks away from your teeth so they can work on your teeth (lol) It will probably feel weird.

2. They clean your teeth (just like a regular dentist appointment) and then they dry your teeth with one of those air tube things (that get rid of water at the dentist, you know.?) that just dries your teeth for the glue and stuff.

3. The orthodontist will apply those molar rings. Since you have spaces for those from the rubber bands, they can usually easily slide up the tooth. The orthodontist might need to try a few different size to see which will fit, and they might have you bite down on this file thing to see if they fit. You might feel some tugging or a little pain, but not a lot. Then once they find a molar ring that fits, they put the sement/glue on it and put it on your molars. Then they use this light thingy that dries the glue.

4. Now, they do the brackets. They take the brackets, and one by one; glue/sement them to your teeth. So they take a bracket, apply glue to it and then just push it on your tooth. That simple, this part is painless. And they keep doing this till all of the brackets that are needed, are applied. Then they, like above use that light thingy that dries the glue. You might have seen this already if you've ever gotten a filling before. Its a little hand device. Painless.

5. Now, that all the brackets are glued on. They might have you rinse with water to get all that glue taste (tastes bad, trust me) And next, they do the wires. So they take a wire designed for braces, clip it so it fits in your mouth and they just put it on top of the braces and slightly push down to make sure the wire is in the little space thats on top of the bracket. They might then clip it so the wire isn't poking out.

6. Then, you can choose colors for your braces. they will show you a little thing of all the colors, and you can usually choose as many as you want and how you want them arranged. They twist them around the bracket, and then clamp down. You might feel slight pressure.

7. Your braces are on! Takes about 15 minutes, and painless. They will then usually tell you how to brush, the different tools you can use when cleaning your teeth (like how to floss with those threaders) and all that.

I was nervous too, but the person who is putting on your braces will most likely talk to you during it, or tell you whats going on. There are no needles, or shots involved. (thats what I thought the glue was at first. Because there was a needle, I was freaked out. Don't worry, its glue)

Good luck!
Hope I helped :)Health Question & Answer

Surprisingly, getting braces on doesn't hurt during the procedure. You might feel a little bit of stretching of you cheek while they get to the back teeth and a little bit of pinching here and there but other than that get process of getting them on doesn't hurt hardly at all.

Now having braces can hurt the inside of of your cheeks a bit while you are getting use to them and sometimes the adjustments can hurt when they are tighting them. I always got a headache after an adjustment.

They may hurt a bit but trust me- the end result is SO worth it.Health Question & Answer

I had braces put on in high school. I remember feeling a lot of tugging (when placing the wires in the braces) and my mouth was really, really dry from keeping it open for so long.

Other than that, it wasn't really bothersome for me, personally. When he finished, I felt some pressure - that, of course was from the wire being tightened. I did get a headache that night, and was sore a few days after. However, if you take Advil or Tylenol beforehand, you shouldn't have too much pain. Too, when you go to have your braces tightened, it wouldn't be such a bad idea to pop a couple Advil or Tylenol beforehand. This will help to make it less painful depending on how much the braces are tightened.

Everyone is different, but I'm sure you'll be just fine!

Good luck to you!Health Question & Answer

First they are going to scrape your teeth to make them clean. It will make you cringe but it won't hurt. Putting the brackets on does not hurt at all. They just glue them on then use some light gun to make them stick. Does not hurt at all. Once you get the wire in, then it will get uncomfortable. Just a lot of pain in your teeth like someone has pliers and is about to crush them. Don't worry at all. Just take some advil 30 minutes before you go, then keep taking it for about a week.

Make sure you have lot's of mashed potatoes and pudding on hand, because that is all you will be eating for about two weeks.Health Question & Answer

it doesnt hurt at all!!! i was really surprised, all they do is take a mold of your mouth with this thick foamy stuff, then they put this super strong glue (it tastes gross) on your teeth, then they put the individual brackets on, then they use this light thing to dry it, then they put the wire in and then the colors! it doesnt hurt at all until the next few days, but once you keep getting them readjusted, you get used to the feeling and it doesnt hurt as much as the power chains do. but ive had them for over a year and i haven't had any problems, the only downside it the types of food you arent supposed to eat, but everyone eats the stuff anyway, like soda, popcorn, gum, carmel, stuff like that.Health Question & Answer

Hard to explain, but it feels like he is just messing around with your teeth. It does not hurt at all, just feels like he is screwing around with your braces. Although after, the tightness of your braces will make your teeth sore for a couple days, it is nothing to bad. It is better then you think it will be.Health Question & Answer

theres actually nothing to be worried about. no pain whatsoever...its a long process and the only annoying thing is having your mouth open the whole time. i HATE dentists too and my mouth is very sensitive and i stilll felt no pain. after getting the braces on is when the pain starts :( be sure to have a lot of advil. i have it worse im getting a palate expander tomorrw!!Health Question & Answer

they stretch your mouth open really wide and it hurts your lips so make sure you wear chapstick before you go. i wish someone had of told me that cause it cracked my dry lips. its not that horrible though try not to worry about it. you'll have a beautiful smile in no time :)Health Question & Answer

nothing, they basically just put the glue on your teeth to glue them on, and insert the wire to put them together, it's after you have them on you feel pressure in your mouth. It only lasts a couple days.. you get so used to them real quick.Health Question & Answer

i have never had braces =), but a lot of my friends have had them. and one of my friends said that she couldnt breath becaue that put this huge thing in your mouth and it feels funny but it dont really hurt until a few hours later.

It doesn't hurt at all. It feels bulky. He will just glue a bracket to each of your teeth then put a wire connecting all the bracket. Its kinda scratchy until he puts the rubberbands on the brackets. But its not bad.Health Question & Answer

Just some pushing on your teeth, and the smell of dental adhesive. Getting them off is worse, because they have to drill the extra glue off. None of it hurts though.Health Question & Answer

don't worry, it's not too bad. they just tighten your braces each time, and you don't even feel anything. next thing you know, they are done. the cool thing is, you get to pick colors for your braces :)Health Question & Answer

it does not hurt besides they strech out your lips kinda funny...its interestingHealth Question & Answer
