I have a cavity on my front tooth that's really hurting, what can I do for it?!

Question: I have a cavity on my front tooth that's really hurting, what can I do for it.?
In my top front tooth I have a cavity, and it's like a circular hole that's just going in to my tooth. I don't have any dental insurance so I can't get it fixed.
It's really hurting. Will origel (like for babies) help.?

I don't think there is any great solution for the pain. About all I've heard of is just taking OTC medications. Ibuprofen like advil or motrin is usually the best for oral pain. You just need to find the money to get it fixed asap. The longer you wait, the more expensive it will get. You will be looking at root canals and crowns and stuff that are way more expensive than you probably want to try to afford. This started as a problem that could have been taken care of for less than a hundred bucks and hopefully this is still the case.

Sadly if you don't have the money for the expensive stuff and the cavity is already too big, about your only option is to pull it. Not cool on a front tooth.

Try a dental school

Oh yea, and orajel will do nothing for it. It is to help sore gums, not tooth pain that is down in the nerves of your teeth.Health Question & Answer

Get it fixed as soon as possible. You don't want it to keep getting larger until the tooth becomes infected and you have to get a root canal. If you do, you will need to have a post built into the root shaft to support a crown. Otherwise, your tooth will be discolored and brittle. Front teeth are especially prone to breaking off. I once had one snap off at the gumline while chewing on some beef jerky.Health Question & Answer

I know that if you go to a dental school it will be cheaper to get it filled, but it will take a long time. I'm assisting at loma linda dental school right now and most of the procedures are about 4 hours, so you have to be patient.lol pun.

but its about half the price of a regular dentist, and they are very thourogh because they have their teachers check every step.

good luck!

If you don't want the cavity to keep expanding, you can't eat anything with a lot of sugar in it. But you must get it fixed eventually or the entire tooth will rot over many years.Health Question & Answer

Just cause you don't have insurance doesn't mean you can't get the tooth fixed. I would assume you intend on keeping the tooth. Look for a dental school or find a dentist that will let you pay over time.Health Question & Answer

You have money for internet access so maybe you might want to start saving some money for this type of problem. You can also check around to see if there is a dental school. They do the work for free in some cases.Health Question & Answer

Take Ibuprofin (Motrin) for the pain. That's an over-the-counter painkiller that's good for toothaches.

And go to a dentist. The pain won't go away until you get it fixed. A filling should cost around $85 dollars.Health Question & Answer
