Hard to say what it might be....but try rinsing with salt water, which is not only an effective astringent, but also toughens the gums. If this continues for more than a couple of days, may want to consider consulting a dentist. The gray color you described could either be a blister, exposure of abraded area to frequent moisture or perhaps periodontal issue. Get it checked out if the salt water rinses don't help. Try not to brush the area. Good luck........Health Question & Answer

It's not uncommon for people to get blister-like things in their mouth, but fortunately they usually don't last long. Rinse your mouth several times a day with warm salt water (the saltier the better) and don't brush the back of your front teeth until this heals, because that will only irritate it. also avoid any spicy foods. If it's not improving by Monday give your dentist a call. He may be able to call in a prescription mouthwash and you won't even need to go in to see him. I doubt it's anything serious, but I know that doesn't help much when it hurts so badly.Health Question & Answer
