Do I have to pull out my teeth if I get braces?!

Question: Do I have to pull out my teeth if I get braces.?
I heard if you have crowding you have to take out some teeth for braces. I have an overbite and some crowding due to my dad's genes (dangit.) but anyway so I might be going to the dentist this year...it depends. But one of my greatest fear are dentist and shots. I heard from many people who has braces that their teeth get pulled out if they have crowding. I have twenty eight teeth total..(14 top 14 bottom. because i'm 14 years old >D) And my friends took a look at my teeth and told me it wasn't so bad and they might not pull out any .. but I want to know if that's true or not >_>;; So to sum it all up how do you know if you're going to get your teeth/tooth pullen out for braces.?Health Question & Answer

I am an orthodontic assistant and have been in many new patient exams where we plan the patient's treatment including whether the treatment should be extraction or non-extraction. Sometimes it is best to extract teeth in order to align the remaining teeth if you want them to maintain a healthy position in the supporting bone. Usually only about 30% of the patients we see need extraction. Every doctor has a little bit different philosophy regarding treatment and each case is different. In the end, whether or not you need extractions will depend on the severity of the crowding. I would recommend going to a consultation or two, they're usually free.Health Question & Answer

Well yes, normally when you have crowding in your teeth it is best for the patient to have a few teeth removed. No worries though, you wont feel it, b/c of the shot. And you wont feel the shot b/c they numb your gum first. Most of them time if you have teeth that are above others and your teeth are really big there is no way that it will be able to all fit in one row, but if you have little teeth and they are not so crooked then you probably wont have to.Health Question & Answer

When I got braces, they had to take some teeth out :( I had two from the bottom and two from the top due to crowding and I also had a stupid underbite. Years later I now have an overbite and now crowding, however they still want to take out teeth due to my stupid wisdom teeth, and I've only just turned 18!!! grr

Chances are, depending on why you're getting the braces, you will have to get some teeth taken out. But don't worry, it isn't too painful.Health Question & Answer

You don't know. I am 13. When I was 9 I got 4 teeth pulled out. When I was 11 I ot another 2 taken out. At the start off this year I got braces. They then had to take off my bottom braces to take out another 2 teeth two weeks ago. The next time I go to the dentist they are putting my bottom braces back on.Health Question & Answer
