Hi,
Give it time. After only 2 months, it is too soon to expect much. I'm sure that your mouth makes too much saliva too. The back of your top plate is probably hurting or gagging. Your mouth is still swollen and are trying to shrink. They will. The adhesives are probably aggravating your gums. I have used Fixodent control. The powder, to me was yucky and got into minor cuts in my gums. You do need to wear your dentures as much as you can. That is the only way you can get used to them. Try sleeping in them too. Your gums need to form to the molded shape in the dentures. The back of the top plate was the hardest thing to get used to for me, but I did. The excess saliva just went away after about 3 months. It is normal when a foreign object is in your mouth that you salivate. It will pass. After 6 months or so you will have them refitted and it is like night and day. A world of difference. I dont know why you are vomiting though. I never did. You probably have a weak gag reflex.
I cant tell you how important it is to wear them as much as you can. I had to learn how to speak somewhat again too. I whistled with my t's, ha ha, alot. I lost a lot of weight too. I lived on mashed potatoes and soups. I got real creative with a food processor too. Im 50 and even got sick of not eating and ate baby food. Sounds funny but true. I also ate a lot of ice cream cause it felt good on my gums. I had 26 teeth pulled at once due to chemotherapy ruining my teeth and gums and had of them cut out. I walked out of surgeon clinic with uppers and lowers in!
Give them a chance. Wear them as much as you can. You wont get used to them without having them in your mouth. I have to admit, 2 months into mine and it was difficult. Wondering the same as you. I had my surgery a year ago April and getting along fine. I have had them refitted one time so far. I fought cancer and it ruined my teeth. I feel so much better now and look better. My dentures were very expensive and look so very real. People dont know that I have dentures. There are lots of info on the net about the saliva thing and gagging. Give it a chance, Put your teeth in and wear them. Try to sleep in them and let your mouth get used to them while sleeping. It took me a while to be able to really chew much like red meat. I had major bone problems and bone graphs on my lower jaw so it took me longer than others. But now I can eat anything I want. Stay away from chewing gum. It is a mess from hell. I kept a partial tube of adhesive in my vehicle for a while. Alcohol and coffee dissolves the glue. If you go out to eat, you might want that extra security. Good luck to you and stay tough, it will get better. Wear them and get used to them. It will get better. Health Question & Answer

Trace, i would go back to the dentist and tell him/her what you are experiencing. Immediate dentures are usually made from impressions taken while you still had some natural teeth, they will not fit perfectly and require a lot of attention in the early days in the form of adjustments and relines.

It sounds like the dentures are just to big or too long and are irritating your mouth. Denture adhesives work well for keeping moderately loose dentures in place and if not applied correctly can make matters worse than if none were being used.

You need to get them refitted soon and begin to wear them more and more each day. Wearing them is the only way to get used to them.

Feel free to contact me off the board if you wish, I have had my dentures for 8 years.Health Question & Answer
