Large lump in roof of my mouth and painful?!

Question: Large lump in roof of my mouth and painful.?
I've had this lump for quite some time now. I never really paid it any attention until I got dentures two months ago.The denture plate really agitates the lump.I don't have a regular DDS . I went to a dental clinic in South Carolina and had all my work done in a day. I wasn't really a patient there I was number 30. My question is ,, is this something i should be concerned about.? By the way , the lump is about the size of a peach seed and just as hard.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
depends when did u notice the lump.? usually hard palate i.e roof of mouth and the part of lower jaw on the inner aspect of ur premolar teeth are the sites for a bony overgrowth known as TORI singular:torus
if there is no discharge of pus or pain then it is infact a torus...usually they do not need any treatment except when u need dentures they have to be reduced by a minor surgical procedure in which the dental surgeon grinds off the excess bone.since ur wearing denture, it irritates the thin mucsa over the bony overgrowth n abrades it and makes it panful...for that u need to see ur dentist who will do the surgery and give ur denture a soft liner or tissue conditioner.

it sounds like an abcess. you are going to have to go to get an x-ray to know for sure what is going on. maybe there was a root of a tooth that is still in there or a pocket could have gotten infected. either way, look around for another clinic if money is an issue. i know in my area we have them. you can look at dental schools also. they usually have a reduced/ sliding fee scale. they are more than likely going to put you on antibiotics. i am sure it was an abcess and now is worse since it is being irrated but the new dentures. good luck and for now make sure you keep brushing your dentures and mouth. you can try a warm salt water rinse a day. oh and take ibprophen for the pain.Health Question & Answer

This could be a number of things and the best thing to do is get it checked out immediately. The warm and moist environment of the mouth is a good place for bacteria and other things such as cancer cells to grow rapidly. Good luck!Health Question & Answer
