Should a tooth still hurt after a root canal?!

Question: Should a tooth still hurt after a root canal.?
Back in August I ended up having two root canals back to back. One of them has a post and core set up but needs a crown. The other still has the existing crown but doc said it has a crack and eventually will need to be replaced.. I don't have the $$ to complete the work ~ already charged $2800.00 on my credit card to cover so far and will pay interest on that! Now the tooth with the cracked crown aches sometimes ~ is that normal.?Health Question & Answer

With out looking at you it is hard to say what is happening. It sounds like one of you teeth had an existing crown and they went through that crown to do the root canal. A tooth that gets root canal should have a crown put on and a tooth with an existing crown should have a new crown made, bc there is a high chance there is a leakge point somewhere in that crown that lead to the tooths demise.

One question I have is the tooth with the existing crown did it have a temporary place in a liitle hole where they drill through it to do the root canal.? it usually is a dark grey or really white and looks a little like paste. If this is the case then the temporary may be failing and it the root canal is contaminated.

YOu should have the tooth relooked at first, if they the doc thinkc the tooth is still okay and it has a temporary in the spot of the crown where they drilled a hole to do the root canal, ask the doc if they can put amalgam (silver filling in the hole instead of the temporary) The silver filling will act as a temporary until you can get you finances taken care off. The only difference if this will act as a long term temporary (this buys you a lot of time) instead of the one routinely use that are meant to be in place for only a month.Health Question & Answer

Pain is never normal. Either there is residual nerve root remaining or infection. Or possibly the crown is loose and you are flexing the tooth as you chew. That is more like a bruise to the area. Painful, but not as serious. Try and get the crowns finished so the work doesn't escalate into more problems and even more money.Health Question & Answer
