Why would my root canal hurt ?!

Question: Why would my root canal hurt .?
Two years ago at age 16 I had a root canal done. Two years later it hurts. Two days ago I was chewing gum while I was driving home & suddenly my tooth started to hurt. For the past 2 days my moler tooth which had a root canal done, has been hurting for 2 days now. At night I notice, when I sleep on the side my tooth is on, its starts to hurt even more & I wake up from a sore feeling. I checked in I have any swelling on my checks or my gum's, & I have neither of those symptoms. After I switch side that it hurts the less. Or when I'm awake it hurts a little bit during the day. But it still hurts during the day. Its been 2 days now.

What do u think the problem is .?.?.?

How long has it been since the tooth in question was x-rayed.? Most likely the tooth is abscessed at the root and will need additional treatment or possibility removal. That happened to me a while back. Upon the advice of my dentist, I went to a periodontist for treatment, which in and of itself was expensive. During the treatment phase I learned the tooth was vertically cracked. In the process the doctor opened the gums (ossesous surgery), cleaned out the infection and packed the area with artificial bone material. Unfortunately, the procedure eventually failed and the area began to hurt from a new abscess. But the new abscess did not cause my gums to swell and was only detected through x-ray. So I had the tooth removed and because it was a molar I am now in the process of having an implant. Implants are very expensive but should be considered if you wind up losing your tooth, especially if you have insurance. But first, you should visit your dentist for a simple x-ray and then seek out a specialist if necessary. One thing is clear though. It isn't your tooth that's bothering you because its been dead since the root canal. Good luck.Health Question & Answer
