How does straightening teeth work by removing one?!

Question: How does straightening teeth work by removing one.?
I have a tooth which is pushed back between my other teeth, it is overlapping and been told a veneer can not be used because it would make it difficult to clean inbeteen and could cause some gum problems.

the only other suggestion the dentist could offer was to go see the orthadontist (sp.?) and they can remove one tooth and move the others along to try and straighten them. Can someone tell me how this works.? braces once they remove the tooth.? how long will it take to have the straight. is there any other options.?

Money is no problem just the look of this wonky tooth really gets me down when it comes to photos as i can never smile in them cause it looks so bad :(Health Question & Answer

The orthodontist won't definitely have to remove the tooth. If money is not at issue, it would probably be better if s/he didn't remove a tooth that shows when you talk or smile, but made room for it by rearranging the teeth and drawing it into place. If the tooth is in the back, removal may be the best option.

Orthodontia takes around 18 - 36 months, depending on what needs to be done and on the age and cooperation of the patient. An adult or older teen who gives a green light for mild pain can finish more quickly because the teeth can be moved faster than on a younger patient who makes a big fuss out of his or her discomfort, fails to floss, breaks wires or removes brackets by eating forbidden foods, etc.Health Question & Answer

Yes they remove one tooth to make room for the rest and then they give you some braces and probably after that a retainer for a small amount of time

The braces can be on from one year to two maybe even 3 it all depends how bad your case is Health Question & Answer

I used to have the most crooked, crowded teeth ever and I hated them. I got braces and had to have 4 teeth pulled, plus my wisdom teeth. Losing all of those teeth made so much more room in my mouth that all my teeth fit in a nice straight row. That's how it works. :P Crowded=crooked, not crowded=straight. Basically.

I had braces for 2.5 years but I had a severe overbite and extreme crowding and it was totally worth it. I love my smile now and I don't even remember what it was like to have braces. I would recommend it to anyone who hates their teeth and has the money to spend on it.Health Question & Answer

Defiantly go see the orthodontist before you have the tooth removed. With that in mind, your mouth is only so big and most people have crowding because their mouth is simply too small for all of their teeth. By removing one it gives the orthodontist extra room to straighten your teeth. You may actually have to have more than one removed so that each tooth has the correct tooth opposing it thus making your bite correct. Have the orthodontic consult first... they'll be able to answer all of your questions.

As for how long it takes, that varies based on how much work needs to be done, age, etc.

Best of luck! =) Health Question & Answer
