What do you think of this method of sterilizing your toothbrush?!

Question: What do you think of this method of sterilizing your toothbrush.?
Yahoo! Had a link to this article ( http://www.fitsugar.com/2339363 ), which advocates sterilizing your toothbrush by microwaving it every once in a while.

I've sterilized mine by soaking it in rubbing alcohol for a few hours, then rinsing it. have never done the microwave thing. I don't like the idea of nuking when it's not necessary.

What do you think.? Would microwaving it make it more sterile than soaking it in alcohol.?

Oh, and btw, it says to change it every 3-4 months. My dentist recommends it be changed every month. How often do you think is good.?Health Question & Answer

There really is no need to sterilize your toothbrush unless you live with someone who's constantly sick with something deadly otherwise there's not real reason to sterilize it. Bacteria aren't necessarily a bad thing. Some dentists say you should leave it soaking in peroxide and water until you use it again. Just so everyone understands, DO NOT MICROWAVE YOUR TOOTHBRUSH. That's very interesting, putting your toothbrush in a microwave. For my toothbrush, I keep it in my drawer, I think it keeps it cleaner. I also change my toothbrush every 2 months and my dentist is fine with that, she never complains about my teeth.Health Question & Answer

I'm in dental school and in all my courses I have never been told it is important to sterilize your tooth brush. It wouldn't hurt but I don't think it much matters at all.

Rinsing in water water won't sterilize, but boiling water will. That's how I sterilize my toothbrush and that's all that's needed.
