Question: DO I have to have a root canal.?
or can I just get it cleaned out and filled..? I am terrified of needles. My dentist says I need a root canal. Can i just get it filled instead.? I have very low pain tolerance. I have not had any work done to my teeth in 20 years because im so afraid.Health Question & Answer

If he told you that you need a root canal is probably because you have an abcess or you have a really bad cavity that is touching your nerves if eithe of these 2 are he case then yes you definatly need a root canal. If you just get the filling then your tooth will still hurt and if i doest it will eventually start hurting. If you have a good dentist then the root canal shouldnt be any worse than a filling I promise. The only other option is getting the tooth extracted and getting an implant or a bridge but if you get a bridge you are going to have to mess up perfectly good teeth and the implant can be paiful to. I would just go with the root canal. If you had a bad experince before try not to worry about it. Dental Technology has advanced so much within he last 20 years that you will be amazed over how pain free it is. It may be uncomfortable you you shouldnt experience anything unbarable. It depends on the tooth in question. I needed a root canal and it was a molar. The dentist told me that the crown or filling may only be good for about a year. I asked what my other options were and she said I could have it pulled and not mess up my other teeth. I opted to have it pulled and have no problems at all.Health Question & Answer
