Stitches came out after wisdom teeth removal. Is this ok?!

Question: Stitches came out after wisdom teeth removal. Is this ok.?
I just got my wisdom teeth out last thursday. They stitched up both the bottom holes, and one side looks pretty good and closed, but I think there is a problem with the other side. Up until today, I could still see the hole open, like the stitches were really loose, and then when I was eating earlier I looked in there again and the stitches are completely gone. Now it looks wide open. Is this ok.?.?.? I haven't wanted to eat anything but soft foods because I'm afraid stuff will get stuck in there....but how long will this take to heal now.?.? Do I need to go back and get it restitched.? Health Question & Answer

Answers:
This sounds completely normal. Keep things rinsed out and it will most likely heal uneventfully You do not need to have it restitched and you do not have a dry socket. At worst you might need to irrigate the area to remove food debris from the socket. You can get a syringe from your dentist if you need one. We give them out all the time.
Usually a good rinse with peroxide and water mixed half and half will flush out any food debris.
Healing is always slower if the socket is open but healing is almost always complete and uneventful. It can take a month to fill in the area but the mouth is amazing in it's ability to heal without problems.
Just keep your mouth rinsed out well and eat what you are comfortable eating.
If you had a dry socket you would have described things way differently. Health Question & Answer

I would ask your dentist/oral surgeon, but yes it does seem like your stitches came out too soon. I remember when I got my wisdom teeth out last year they told me to make sure I wasn't eating certain things that would open them up or get stuck in the holes. The stitches are also supposed to dissolve after a period of time, but I don't think this is the case since you still have a gaping wound in your mouth...

I would call your dentist ASAPHealth Question & Answer

did the dentist mention coming back for suture removal or will they dissolve on its own.? if you have to go back for suture removal it will be a week from the extraction, they will check the healing.usually there is no need to suture again the good thing about oral mucosa is, its capacity to heal well ,fast.if you feel the hole looks big avoid eating sticky food & rice...could get into the wound .warm water&salt rinses are very helpful
healing for a wisdom tooth extraciton takes 3-4 weeks depending on the position of the tooth extractedHealth Question & Answer

They probably used dissolvable stitches. Unless it is bleeding excessively, it should be ok. To get the food out of it swish with salt water (mix 1 tsp reg salt w/ 8 ounces water). Just keep the food out of it as much as you can. If you develop pain in it, you might be getting infection for dry sockets. Then you will have to call the oral surgeon or dentist that took them out and get an antibiotic.Health Question & Answer

no its almost 7 days today, you don't really need the area to be restitched. just keep the place clean gurgle after every meal. it will take around 2 weeks to heal and 4 weeks for complete healing it varies from person to person, as long the area is clean, no pain and bad breath don't worryHealth Question & Answer

If it is still bleeding then I would go back for stitches. Your gums heal from the inside out, it takes time - a long time. When I get teeth pulled it would take close to a month to heal, but the gums will still be soft to the touch. Health Question & Answer

No, you should not need to get it restitched. Same thing happened to me, just kinda freaky. You should have a follow up with your dentist soon, just show the dentist. Just use the gum cleaning syringe and you will be fine. Health Question & Answer

Mine dissolved 2 days after removal and the holes closed up within a month. The first week I was careful and rinsed out my mouth after I ate. You will be just fine. Health Question & Answer

If they are dissolveable stitches then thats normal. if they arn't then call your dentist for further advice.Health Question & Answer

You need to go to the dentist. You have a dry socket and will start to hurt really, really bad.Health Question & Answer

donaldvf has the correct answer. Health Question & Answer

I had something similar I had flap surgery that is a gum surgery.
The dentist stitched the gums. I had some stitches that came out and it did not effect anything. Stitches are important the first day, but a few days later the stitches are not that necessary since it gives the gums room to heal.. I think the healing takes 1 to 2 weeks. If you had gone to an oral surgeon they would want you to come back in 1 or 2 weeks to check things. A general dentist may not follow that practice. As far as eating I stayed off the side of the mouth were the work was done. The goods news was that I ate much slower for that reason and I lost some weight in the process since the eating took much longer than normal. Go to an oral surgeon and have it checked out in any case.
