That depends. I don't know what they are for, but I think they date back to when ancient peoples hunted to eat and chewed tougher foods and also had more broad features.
They pull those things out now because alot of us don't have wide enough jaw-lines to accomodate the extra set of teeth without messing up the alignment of the other teeth or causing pain.
Your other tooth might be fine if it isn't going to endanger the rest of your jawline but chances are they will want to remove it when it gets closer to the surface, if it does.
I had all four of mine taken out at once at age 17 to spare some expensive orthodontic work done when I was 12.
Mine were all deep under the surface but I healed up in a matter of a few days. Health Question & Answer
